Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Easy Shiny Non Region Ditto

General Information

What makes these games different from their original versions is the use of the Rotom-Dex. Rotom now allows you to get special items that can help you out while you explore the Alolan region and while you shiny hunt.

Another major difference is you are now able to explore Ultra Space with Solgaleo and Lunala. Ultra space and the wormholes inside of them now allow you to hunt all of the legendaries from Generations 1-6(except for Zygarde) and all of the Ultra Beasts(except for Blacephalon and Stakataka; they don't have their own wormholes and are instead found terrorizing the Alolan region). Ultra Space also has some Pokémon not native to the Alolan region. These Pokémon have their own set of shiny odds that I will later go over in their section of the guide.

Shiny Hunting Methods

1. Random Encountering

Randomly encounter Pokémon in the wild in the hopes that one is shiny. You can encounter wild Pokémon in grass, caves, surfing, through ambush encounters, in moving sand on beaches, and while fishing. Having a Pokémon with the ability Illuminate in the front of your party will help you encounter more Pokémon. Morellul (you can get one from Lush jungle), Shiinotic, Staryu(you can get one on Hano Beach on Akala Island in the sand patches), and Starmie can have the Illuminate ability. The Roto-Encounter will increase the wild encounters and will stack with the Illuminate ability. The Roto-Catch makes it easier to catch a shiny when you do find one.

2. Soft Resetting

To soft reset on these games you need to hold down L, R, Start, and Select at the same time. You can soft reset for the starters, but just like in X and Y, there is a long cutscene before you can pick your starter. It's about 3-5 minutes of a wait to see if it's shiny or not. You're now able to soft Reset for all of the previous Ultra Beasts and all the Legendaries(except for Zygarde) from Generations 1-6.

You can soft reset for fossil Pokémon in these games by bringing them to the Fossil Restoration Center along Route 8 on Akala Island. There aren't any new fossils in the Alolan region, but you can obtain all the old fossils(minus the Old Amber) by either buying them from Olivia's Jewelry store in KoniKoni City or receiving some from the Poképelago Isle Aphun rare treasure search. Some fossils are version exclusives, so click this link to see which fossils you can hunt.

You can also soft reset for Wimpod, the Aerodactyl from Seafolk Village, the Kecleon hiding in Dividing Peak Tunnel, the Porygon you receive from the Aether House on Route 15 after completing the game, the Type:Null Wicke gives you right before the Ultra Beast Mission, the legendaries within the Ultra Wormholes, the Ditto 5 from KoniKoni Island, the Surfing Pikachu in HeaHea city after beating all the Mantine Surf high scores, and the QR code Ash-Hat Pikachu. The Ash-Hat Pikachu doesn't have a different Sprite from the original one, but it still sparkles and has the shiny star indicator in the summary screen.

You are able to SR for a shiny Poipole. I recommend turning down the Poipole when it's first offered to you, so you don't have to constantly battle Ultra Necrozma before checking if Poipole is shiny. Turning down the Poipole doesn't mean you won't be able to SR for it at all, it just gives you a chance to SR for it later. Next time you return to Ultra Megalopolis, you will be able to SR for it by saving immediately in front of the Ultra Recon Squad member that offers it to you. You can technically SR the gift Eevee egg from Paniola Ranch, but you have to save right before receiving the egg and constantly receive/rehatch it for a shiny. Eevee is obtainable in the wild, so it's typically faster to just chain in the grass for a shiny.

3. Breeding

The most popular way to breed for a shiny is through the Masuda Method. The Masuda Method is when you breed two Pokémon with two different countries of origin to have a higher chance of hatching a shiny. Odds when using the Masuda Method are 1 in 683 and with the shiny charm it's 1 in 512. Foreign Pokémon are fairly easy to obtain since you can still trade online in these games. You don't have to use the Masuda method if you don't want to, it just helps increase your chances of hatching a shiny. Flame Body and Magma Armor help speed up the hatching process if you have a Pokémon with these abilities in your party as you hatch eggs. You can get a Fletchling or Magby with Flame body from the Wela Volcano park. The Roto-Hatch stacks with Flame body and will make eggs hatch even faster. Sun and Moon also added the Poképelago which includes a hot spring in Isle Avue. You can add up to 18 eggs there. After a couple of hours, they will be ready to hatch.

There is also an exploitable trick known as the Shiny Swap Method. Once you put two Pokémon in a daycare together, the game randomly generates the number of eggs it takes until you get a shiny. To do this trick, you first need to save your game. Then you place a Ditto and a magikarp into the daycare and breed them until you get a shiny. Magikarp is used because it's the fastest Pokémon to hatch. Once you hatch a shiny Magikarp you will soft reset the game. Next, you add the ditto again and the actual Pokémon you want to hunt. Instead of hatching all of those eggs again, you would only have to hatch the number that was a shiny before soft resetting the game. So, if you got a Magikarp in 289 eggs, you would only hatch egg 289 for whatever your actual target is. ote; this trick doesn't work for male-only/female-only Pokémon, genderless Pokémon, or Pokémon that need to be a specific gender to evolve.

4. Poképelago SRing

This is about the same as regular Soft Resetting, but since it has so many steps I decided to put the Poképelago SRing separately. The beans at Isle Abeens will attract wild Pokémon that sometimes join your team. These Pokémon have a chance to be shiny! To get this to work, you need to save your game right before you enter the Poképelago to see what new Pokémon showed up on Isle Abeens. If they aren't shiny you can SR until one does become shiny. Save your game to keep that shiny in Isle Abeens! Later on when you go to collect it, save again just in case it decided to not join your team. That way you can SR the shiny into deciding to join your team.

5. SOS Chaining

http://pokemonforever.com/Thread-GUIDE-How-I-Shiny-Hunt-Salazzle-Tips-and-Tricks

The Pokémon of Alola will call for help in battles and sometimes they will call a Shiny! A chain will have a 1 in 1,024(it's 1 in 683 if you have the Shiny Charm) chance of finding a shiny when it reaches 70 encounters and up until the 255th encounter is reached. This chain is a bit complicated to get ready for, but is easy once you have the supplies and the correct team. First, you'll have to stock up on healing items, Leppa berries, and Adrenaline Orbs. Next thing you want to do is get ahold of a Pokémon with the ability Harvest and the moves Skill Swap and Trick. Bestow can work instead of Trick, but Bestow will fail if the target is already holding an item.

The two Pokémon that can have this set are Exeggutor and Trevenant. Here's a link to a video that shows you how to get either of those. After you get one of these Pokémon, it's time to start the chain. Send out your Exeggutor/Trevenant to skill swap Harvest onto the target. Next, you trick a Leppa berry onto it. This creates a scenario where the wild Pokémon will never run out of moves. False Swipe your target and set up an Adrenaline Orb to make the Pokémon call for help more often. If you want even more Pokémon to appear, you can have a Pokémon with the ability Illuminate/Intimidate in the first slot of your party.

Knock out whatever is called in for help until you find a shiny. If the Pokémon doesn't call for help, you can take the time to heal your Pokémon or you can click on an Adrenaline Orb to waste a turn(this will not use another orb). Please note that this doesn't work on Pokémon like Mimikyu that have an ability that can't be Skill Swapped off or for Pokémon like Mareanie that can't call for help. You need to plan the rest of your team around whatever you are chaining. For example, if you plan on chaining a Pokémon that knows recoil moves like Take Down, you should try having a Trevenant for Harvest/Trick and a Decidueye for False Swipe so the Pokémon can't hurt itself.

If you're hunting a Pokémon with the ability Sturdy, you can set up Stealth Rocks to get damage off as soon as a new Pokémon enters. If you're hunting a Pokémon that knows stat-lowering moves, try having a Pokémon with the abilities Keen Eye, Clear Body, and Contrary. When a shiny is finally called in, you need to paralyze it(or put it to sleep if it isn't affected by paralysis) because a Pokémon with a status condition won't call for help(it also makes a Pokémon easier to catch). You can't catch a Pokémon if two are on the field, so you need to knock out the other one to catch your shiny.

6. Island Scan

user uploaded image

https://daily.pokecommunity.com/2017/11/17/pokemon-ultra-sun-and-ultra-moon-island-scan/

The QR Scanner on the lower screen collects points each time you scan a new QR code. Once the scanner reaches 100 points, you can use the Island Scan feature! This feature allows you to find a Pokémon not native to the Alolan region for one hour. Save once you get 100 points and before you use the island scan so you can SR back to full points if you don't find a shiny within that hour. The foreign Pokémon has a 40% chance of appearing and a few of them can be repel tricked into becoming 70-75%. These foreign Pokémon don't call for help and can only be random encounters in the grass. That means you can run into a shiny that isn't your target.

It's really up to you if you want to catch the shiny you weren't looking for and save, or to SR over the shiny when the timer runs out. Saving after the timer runs out means you have to get another 100 points to use the Island Scan again. The Pokémon you can encounter changes depending on what day of the week it is and what island you're on, but this link shows you which Pokémon are available through island scan. You can change your date on your 3ds to encounter the Pokémon of your choice; the only penalty is berries are kept from growing for 24 hours. Using a Roto-Catch will make catching the shiny easier.

This Sun and Moon video goes into further detail about Island Scan.

You cannot shiny hunt for the gift Magearna, but scanning the code to receive it does add points to the QR Scanner.

7. Ultra Wormholes

user uploaded image

https://www.serebii.net/ultrasunultramoon/ultrawormholes.shtml

After beating the main storyline, you can return to the Altar and enter Ultra Space. Ultra Space is full of Pokémon not native to the Alolan region and you can enter a wormhole to encounter them. The Pokémon Crustle, Abomasnow, Magcargo, Hippowdon, Medicham, Altaria, Swellow, Swanna, Yanmega, Sigilyph, Stunfisk, Barbaracle, Lombre, Quagsire, Floatzel, Grumpig, Nuzleaf, Heliosk, Audino, and Drapion ALL have a raised chance to be shiny. The odds vary depending on how many rings a wormhole has and how far you've traveled into Ultra Space, but the highest chance you have to find a shiny is 36% (or 1/8 chance) in the Double-Ringed Wormholes at 5,000+ light years.

The shiny roll happens as soon as you enter the wormhole, so if it's not a shiny when you encounter it then it won't be shiny at all. If the Pokémon IS shiny and you've saved right before starting the encounter, you have unlimited chances to catch it. The Roto-Catch makes them even easier to nab. You can even SR for a different nature or gender since it will remain as a shiny. These wormhole Pokémon are one of easiest shiny Pokémon to hunt and are a fast way to get shiny Pokémon for those who don't have enough patience to do a harder Full Odds Hunt.

The Legendary Pokémon and Ultra Beasts do not have the same shiny odds as the regular Pokémon. Legendary Pokémon and Ultra Beasts have the standard 1 in 4,096 odds or 1 in 1,365 if you have the Shiny Charm. It's not determined if they're shiny or not as soon as you enter the wormhole. You have to save right before the encounter starts and then SR until you find a shiny one.

You're not guaranteed to catch that shiny either, so if you fail it you're going to have to start Soft Resetting again. I recommend using the Harvest/Trick Exeggutor or Trevenant commonly used for SOS chaining to help keep the Legendaries from struggling to death. The Roto-Catch will also help you catch the Legendary a bit easier. There is a limited amount of Legendaries in Ultra Space. If you've already caught a Legendary, you won't be able to Soft Reset for it ever again. If you're hunting for a Legendary and get bored and want to leave the wormhole, you can leave as long as you leave before starting the encounter with the Legendary. Once you catch all the Legendaries, the common Pokémon will take their place in the Blooming Wormholes.

The Legendary will remain in Ultra Space until you decide to catch it. Unlike the Legendaries, you have an unlimited amount of Ultra Beasts(except for Blacephalon/Stakataka because they're a sidequest on Poni Island). That means you're still able to return to their Wormhole and hunt a shiny version of them even if you've already caught one. You can Soft Reset for as many Ultra Beasts as you want to. Certain Legendaries and Ultra Beasts are version exclusives, so click this link to see which are available in your game.

8. Run Aways

user uploaded image

http://noseclub.bluwiikoon.art/usumubs.shtml

This method is for Blacephalon(Ultra Sun) and Stakataka(Ultra Moon). These two Ultra Beasts that are exclusive to the Ultra Games did not receive their own Wormholes. Instead, they received a side-quest like all the other Ultra Beasts got in the first Alolan games. You can head over to Poni Grove after becoming champion. The Ultra Recon Squad will meet you and Hau there and explain that there are three Ultra Beasts(either three Blacephalon or three Stakataka) running amuck in the grass. Hau catches one and the other two are for you. The side-quest doesn't end until you catch both of the Ultra Beasts.

You can constantly run from them until you bump into a shiny one. You are able to find Pokémon in the grass that aren't Blacephalon/Stakataka, but that doesn't effect your Run Away hunt. You can continue hunting even if you caught a shiny that isn't the Ultra Beast you are looking for. Using a Roto-Catch and a Beast Ball will help you catch your shiny target. If you want to catch one non-shiny and come back to Poni Grove later on to hunt, you may do so. Knocking them out doesn't keep you from encountering them again. You will be able to continue hunting them as long as you haven't caught two of that Ultra Beast.

Here's a video of AbsolBlogsPokemon getting a shiny of each Ultra Beast.
